Compton's Letterpress Artisans Guild

At the heart of Splintercraft is Compton's Letterpress Artisans Guild (CLAG), built around the historic pressroom of Silas T. Compton and the Mt. Enterprise Progress.

The preservation of that pressroom became a catalyst for the larger work that followed, including Splintercraft itself.

CLAG is devoted to the preservation and development of heritage trades and artistic expression, using the historic pressroom as a working foundation for education, practice, and continued craft development.

Traditional Craft + Modern Production

There does not have to be a dividing line between traditional craft and modern tools. Splintercraft brings both together.

Depending on the project, the appropriate process might involve:

  • Hand tools
  • Artist materials
  • Digital imaging
  • Design software
  • Computer-controlled cutting
  • Modern printing equipment
  • Letterpress
  • Offset printing
  • Material preparation
  • Fabrication

The tools change. The goal is still to make the thing.
